Daniel Richard Crandall, 70, of Rapid City, SD, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Fort Meade Veterans Hospital in Sturgis, SD, after battling pancreatic cancer for several months.

At his request, Dan was cremated and his ashes will be spread at some of his favorite places that he spent time with family.

Dan was born on September 17, 1953 in Troy, New York. In the early 60’s his family moved to Chicago, Illinois. In 1965 after his mother passed, he was sent to Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska. He was later transferred to Sky Ranch in South Dakota where he attended Belle Fourche High School with his brother, John. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps from 1973-1976. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he sustained a knee injury and was honorably discharged. He later attended Western Dakota Vo Tech.

In 1977, he married Linda Crandall and was divorced in 1992. They have two children and four grandchildren.

Over the years, he worked in various carpentry positions in North and South Dakota. Dan enjoyed fishing, playing poker, listening to music, and golfing. His pride and joy were his grandkids. One of his favorite pastimes in the last few years was trying out new restaurants with his youngest granddaughter, Katie, and going for ice cream.
