Darrel (Tyke) Hanzlik, born December 16, 1956 in Sturgis SD. Died at the Monument Hospice House in Rapid City on January 10, 2024.
Tyke was born December 16, 1956 and grew up on the family ranch near Mud Butte, SD. He attended grade school at the Squaw Butte School near the ranch and graduated from Newell High School in 1975.
He liked working cattle, training horses, and he was always good at taming a wild animal and making it his pet.
Tyke loved gardening and canning all the produce that he grew and sharing all of it with his family and friends. His canned green beans were everyone’s favorite.
Tyke was a hard worker and took pride in taking on a job and getting it finished. He was a great cook and in his younger life he was a chef in a restaurant. His life took him from working construction, working at a bowling alley, ranching and feedlot jobs and he loved his job working at Walmart in Spearfish.
Tyke enjoyed being around people and sharing and listening to stories with anyone.
Darrel is survived by his mother, Mary Hanzlik; sisters, Penny Hanzlik, Sturgis, SD, Wanda Blair (Ed), Vale, SD; brothers, John Hanzlik, Piedmont, SD, Boyd Hanzlik (Kim), Pueblo, CO, Sam Hanzlik (Shirley), Gillette, WY. He also leaves behind four nieces and three nephews and many cousins and friends.
Tyke is preceded in death by his father, Orville Hanzlik, and stepfather, Ray Murray.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD. Inurnment at Fairpoint Cemetery will be at a later date
In lieu of Flowers a memorial has been established to Meade County 4-H.
