RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Deadwood man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted enticement of a minor using the Internet.

Donald William Laun, 62, will also serve five years of supervised release after his prison sentence and will need to register as a sex offender.

Laun was arrested as a result of an undercover sex trafficking operation conducted during the 2022 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally targeting Internet predators.

Laun engaged in multiple chats and sexually explicit text messages with an undercover agent who he though was a 14-year-old girl.

Laun was indicted by a federal grand jury in August of 2022 and pleaded guilty on August 11 of 2023.
