DEADWOOD, S.D. – The Deadwood Police Department with the assistance of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, continue to investigate the death of a man whose body was found early Wednesday morning.
The deceased male was identified Thursday as 23-year-old Joshua Willis of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Willis’ body was found in Whitewood Creek in the area of the Mickelson Trail at 66 Cliff Street.
As of now, there is no evidence indicating foul play in Joshua’s death, although the investigation is active and ongoing. The cause of death will be determined post autopsy.
In a social media post, Deadwood Police stated “We are grateful for the support of resources from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County Coroner’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations as we piece together this tragic incident.”
