PIERRE, S.D. – State health officials reported 28 new COVID-19 related deaths in their Friday report. The new deaths were 15 men and 13 women with one of them reported in the 40-49 age range. Sixteen of the deaths were in the 80-plus age range.
The new deaths raise the state’s death toll to 1,329.
New cases Friday totaled 575 with active cases up slightly to 8,773. The number of people hospitalized due to the virus fell 19 to 387.
New cases across West River totaled 167. Pennington County had the most with 84. There are 1,135 active cases in Pennington.
Lawrence County added 19 new cases and Meade County added 9 new cases. Active cases in Lawrence County total 227 and 230 remain active in Meade.
Other new cases across West River included 9 in Todd, 8 in Dewey, 7 in Butte, 6 in Fall River, 5 each in Oglala Lakota and Haakon, 4 in Perkins, 2 each in Custer, Lyman, Gregory and Bennett and one each in Stanley and Jackson counties.
As of Friday, health officials report 3,479 people have received the Pfizer vaccine. In Pennington County, 459 have received the vaccine, 51 have received it in Meade and 11 people have gotten it in Lawrence County.
