Dell Rapids Plates Six Runs Late to Defeat Scoopers

STURGIS, SD – The Sturgis Scooper baseball team hosted Dell Rapids for the second night in a row and kept it close, until the Quarriers exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 12-7 decision from the home team.

Both teams traded runs throughout the first few inning until Dell Rapids took a 6-4 lead after a Scooper error, allowing Cooper Frost to cross home plate in the top of the third. George Hamer scored for Sturgis on a fielders choice in the bottom of the third inning, cutting into the Quarriers lead.

The score stayed 6-5 until the seventh inning, when Dell Rapids scored six runs on four hits to take a 12 -5 lead. Sturgis tried to rally in the bottom half of the inning with runs by Dalyn Dschaak and Barrett Patterson, but the Scoopers came up short and fell to the Quarriers, 12-7.

Dell Rapids (2-0) had 10 hits and were led by Cole Ruesink, who had two singles and scored two runs. The Quarriers left five on base and committed two errors. Lincoln Fersdahl got the pitching win for Dell Rapids.

Sturgis (0-3) collected five hits and left six on base. Five Scoopers had one hit each: Carter Williams, Bridger Battin, Jeren Andrzejewski, Hamer and Dschaak. Carson Williams struck out eight, gave up seven hits and walked three on 106 pitches and took the pitching loss for Sturgis.

The Scoopers host Sioux Falls Washington at Strong Field on Friday afternoon in their next scheduled game. The first pitch is scheduled for 4pm.
