Delores Mae Ehnes

Delores Mae Ehnes, 87, Nisland, SD, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at her home.

Delores was born August 18, 1936 to Gustave and Mary (Friez) Aman in rural McLaughlin. She attended the Maple Leaf County school and graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1955. Upon graduating Delores worked at the McLaughlin hospital.

Delores married Lawrence (Larry) Ehnes on September 11, 1956. They lived in the McLaughlin area until 1959 when they moved to Lead where Larry was employed at the Homestake Gold Mine. Delores worked in the Deadwood school lunchroom until retirement.

Delores enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, crafts, digging for antique bottles (way back in the day), rummage sales, motorcycle rides with Larry, fishing (from shore and boat), camping, looking for shark’s teeth, and bowling. Most of all she loved her grandchild and great grandchildren with all her heart.

Delores is survived by her husband, Larry, of 67 years; three sons, Keith of Pierre, Kyle (Tammy) of Spearfish, Kim (Jamie) of Columbus, MT; daughter; Kelly (Rodney) Hanson of Lead; grandchildren, Tyrell Ehnes, Rayo Ehnes, Tyler (Abby) Ehnes, Karissa Ehnes, Austin Ehnes, Zach (Sara) Ehnes, Jesse (Mandy) Ehnes, Zane Ehnes, Broc Hanson, Colton Hanson, Samantha Latray, and Michaela Miles; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Genny Herkenrath of Neola IA; sister-in-law, Delores Aman of Mandan ND; sister-in-law, Darlene Aman of Mobridge SD; and half-sister, Connie (Darin) Shryock Tempe, AZ.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kevin; great grandson, Gabriel Ehnes; brothers Donald, Alvin, Milbert, and Larry; sisters, LuWella Olson and Velma Beranek;
sister-in-law, Violet Aman; brothers-in law, Alf Olson, Edward Beranek, and Phil Herkenrath.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lacey Houska, Mom’s caregiver and friend, and to the Monument Health Hospice nurses.

 

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 10:30 a.m., at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis, SD, with visitation one hour prior. Inurnment will be at a later date.
