Dennis “Bud” L. Kornmann, 86, of Rapid City, SD passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Fountain Springs Healthcare Center, Rapid City. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 10:00 am at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis, SD. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery following the service.
Dennis “Bud” Kornmann was born April 30, 1937, in Castlewood, SD to Edward and Gladys (Flanagan) Kornmann. He received a teaching degree from Black Hill State College in Spearfish, SD. On August 30, 1960, he was united in marriage to Margaret “Margie” Kornmann. They made their homes in Lead, Mobridge and Rapid City SD. Bud was a teacher for the Mobridge School District for 30 years. Along with teaching, he was the varsity wrestling coach for 10 years and was instrumental in developing the program. He touched the lives of many kids during his teaching and coaching years. After Bud and Margie retired, they moved to Rapid City.
Bud is survived by his five children: Dan (Patti), Littleton, CO, Deb (Barry) Dufour, Pierre, SD, Ross (Kristi), Pierre, SD, Todd, Stillwater, MN, Mary (Gordy) Smith, Deadwood SD; four grandchildren: Joshua Kornmann, Tyler (Kyla) Kornmann, Ryan (Aimee) Dufour and Brianna Dufour; brother, James Kornmann, Elmira, OR; sister, Joanne Geffre, Leola SD; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Margie and his parents.
