SPEARFISH, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation is planning to move facility that serves as a staging point for winter maintenance supplies from Spearfish to Sturgis.
That facility is currently located on Cactus Pl., off of Highway 85, on the northern side of Spearfish.
Mike Carlson with the D-O-T says the facility needs refurbished, and rather than doing that, they plan to build a larger facility in Sturgis.
He says that new facility would be able to house material and equipment from Spearfish as well as several tow plow trucks that remove snow from two lanes of travel simultaneously.
Construction of the new facility is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
Carlson says the move would not significantly impact their ability to maintain the highways around Spearfish.
