PIERRE, S.D. – There were 98 new positive tests for COVID-19 in the Thursday report issued by the State Department of Health. All cases were reported in eastern South Dakota.
Minnehaha County saw the most cases with 81. Additional cases were reported in Brown, Jerauld, McCook, Hughes, Lincoln, Turner, Yankton and Union Counties. In Brown County, the health department says 9 of their cases are tied to the DemKota Beef plant.
There were no new positive tests reported in western South Dakota and Pennington County saw an additional recovery – leaving just one active case.
As for testing, there have been 367 negative tests in Pennington County. Meade County has 61 negative tests and Lawrence County has a total of 66.
Total new recoveries increased to 1,064 from 937 on Wednesday.
Current hospitalizations decreased by four to 58 compared to Wednesday’s 62. Total hospitalizations were at 119, an increase of eight from Wednesday’s 111.
Active cases continued a downward trend for the fifth straight day, to 883. The cumulative, or total number of cases in South Dakota since the virus started, is 1,956.
