Dept of Health reports uptick in number of active COVID-19 cases Sunday

PIERRE, S.D. – The state Department of Health reported 35 new cases of COVID-19 today, but the new cases far outweighed the number of recoveries over the past 24 hours.

The new numbers shot the statewide number of active cases up 34 to 903 from yesterday’s 869.

The number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 is up 5 Sunday to 59.

Around the Black Hills, Pennington County reported 4 new positive tests while Meade County reported one.

Pennington County has a cumulative total of 560 with 134 active cases. The number of active cases is up 4 from Saturday.

Meade County’s cumulative is 51 and there are 10 active cases.

Other new positive test numbers from around western South Dakota included one each in Oglala Lakota and Stanley County.

There were no new COVID-19-related deaths reported Sunday, keeping the state’s death total at 97.
