RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol says an accident on I-90 Friday afternoon was caused by a driver attempting to make a u-turn.
Authorities say it happened between I-90 Exit 60 and 61 when an 86-year-old male was driving a 2017 Subaru Outback and was trying to make a u-turn in the middle of the highway.
The driver pulled out in front of a semi truck traveling eastbound on I-90 and the two vehicles collided.
The semi struck the back of the Subaru, sending it into the median.
The 86-year-old male was taken by ambulance to the hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries.
The semi truck driver was not hurt.
The highway patrol is investigating the incident.
