Driver receives minor injuries after crash on I-90 at Exit 30 Monday

STURGIS, S.D. – First responders and law enforcement responded to the scene of a one car rollover at Exit 30 just before noon today.

Sturgis Police Chief Geody Vandewater says a compact car was traveling eastbound when the driver became distracted by her German Shephard dog. The driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled. The vehicle ended up on its roof at the top of the eastbound, on ramp at I-90’s Exit 30.

The driver received minor injuries and was taken by Sturgis Ambulance to the hospital for treatment.

Vandewater says his officers, the city’s animal control and Meade County Sheriff’s deputies did a wonderful job at the scene and were able to catch the very scared dog. He says the dog was not hurt. The dog was picked up by family members later in the day.

The accident has been turned over to the South Dakota Highway Patrol for further investigation.

Assisting agencies were Sturgis P.D., Sturgis Fire, Sturgis Ambulance, Sturgis ACO and Meade County Sheriff.
