Driver seriously injured after truck hits I-90 overpass

HUMBOLDT, S.D. – A 70-year-old man suffered serious life-threatening injuries Wednesday at about 9:00 a.m. when the truck he was driving hit an I-90 overpass.

According to the SD Department of Public Safety, the truck entered the ditch near mile marker 381 near Humboldt. It then struck the bridge overpass of 457th Avenue, pinning him in the vehicle. The driver had to be extricated by firefighters and was taken to a nearby hospital by helicopter

Because of damage to the bridge, DOT engineers and staff decided to close it to traffic.

DPS says all information released so far is preliminary. Authorities are looking into what caused the crash.
