GRANT COUNTY, N.D. — A new case of cattle anthrax has been confirmed in Grant County.
It’s the first confirmed case in the state since August, and was confirmed by the North Dakota State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Fargo.
Anthrax spores are found in the soil, and cattle get sick when they ingest them while grazing.
The new case is among 25 cases of cattle anthrax confirmed across Grant, Hettinger, and Adams counties this year.
The cases have resulted in a combined loss of 170 cattle.
