RAPID CITY, S.D. – A trial date has been set for a Rapid City couple who are charged in the killing of an infant.
Shamar Bennett and Ann Martinez Martin, both 27, appeared in Seventh Circuit Court on Tuesday morning to address bond and set a date for their trial.
Martinez Martin’s attorney requested her bond be lowered as it was set to $1,000,000 while her co-defendant’s bond is set at $300,000. Her attorney argued she is not a flight risk or danger to society as she has no prior criminal history.
Judge Jeffrey Connolly granted the request and set Martinez Martin’s new bond at $50,000, but denied Bennett’s request for a lowered bond amount.
Trial is set to begin April 28 and their next court appearance is set for April 1.
The incident is alleged to have happened around Nov. 13, 2022, to a child born on Sept. 26 of that same year.
