STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Municipal Special Election is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 7.
For the special election, only residents of Ward 1 and Ward 3 can vote. Voting on Election Day Tuesday takes place at the Sturgis Community Center; 1401 Lazelle St. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Candidates for the Ward 1 seat, are Alex Usera and Ryan Klima.
Candidates for the Ward 3 council seat include David Murtha, Mark Chaplin, Richelle Bruch and Jennessa Dempsey.
Votes cast in the election will be canvassed at the Thursday, Jan. 9, meeting of the Sturgis City Council.
Once the votes are canvassed for races in Ward 1 and Ward 3, the winners will be sworn in to office, Mayor Kevin Forrester said. In the event of a recount, the affected candidate will not be sworn in to office until after the recount is completed.
The Thursday meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Sturgis City Hall, 1040 Harley-Davidson Way.
