Edward William Brost, 88, died December 31, 2024. A Memorial Visitation for Edward will be from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis. He was born on February 3, 1936, in Alliance, Nebraska to Ruth and Christy Brost. He married Carolyn Joyce Sherlock, January 26, 1957. As a husband and father, he earned his Registered Nursing degree in the 50’s and his Bachelor’s degree in the 70’s.
He worked as a registered nurse at various locations in Minnesota and Colorado. He was also a First Lieutenant and then a Captain in the United States Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio from 1966 to 1968.
Ed grew up with his family, farming and ranching. He was generally known as Eddie Bill in his youth and through high school. In the early 70’s he bought a summer cabin in Boulder Canyon between Sturgis and Deadwood, South Dakota. He rebuilt it into his and Carolyn’s permanent residence where they raised their boys. He continued to reside there until his passing. Ed loved hunting and fishing and developed a passion for firearms and antiques later in life.
Ed is survived by his sons; Will (DeeAnn), Mark, and David; grandchildren, Jonna (Matt), Taylor, Angela, Mary, Berta, and Jeremia; as well as five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his son, Wayne; and daughter-in-law, Sherie.
