Ellsworth B1 crashes during training mission Thursday

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. – The Air Force says a B-1 Bomber Lancer aircraft stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base crashed Thursday night.

The aircraft crashed at approximately 5:50 p.m. while attempting to land during a routine training mission.

Air Force officials report the B-1 had four crew members on board, all of whom successfully ejected from the plane. The Air Force did not say if any crew members were injured.

Fire crews from the area were dispatched to the base to aid in the effort and it appears the crash was confined to the base.

A board of officers will investigate the crash, aiming to determine the root cause and contributing factors.

The 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs Office is handling information pertinent to the crash.
