Emergency Warning Siren startles Spearfish residents early Monday morning

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Residents in Spearfish were awakened by the city’s emergency warning siren early Monday morning.

The siren, which reportedly went off in the 3:00 a.m. hour, startled residents, with many calling the city’s dispatch center to try and find out what was going on.

The Spearfish Emergency Alert social media page says it appears to be a malfunction and there was no emergency. However, city officials were looking into the matter.
