Extra inning surge pushes Western Nebraska past Sasquatch

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Spearfish Sasquatch and Western Nebraska Pioneers opened the Independence League Championship series with a marathon 15 inning game Thursday night in which the Pioneers used a late surge, scoring eight runs to get an 11-3 victory.

Bryson Hoier had the only multi-base hit for the Sasquatch, doubling and going 2 for 6 at the plate and recording an R.B.I.

Trey Vorwald earned a pair of hits and scored a run for Spearfish.

The two teams meet for game two in the best of three series on Saturday in Gering, Nebraska.
