Fall class start delayed in Meade County

STURGIS, SD – Citing concerns of a COVID-19 infection spike occurring after the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Meade School District officials have made adjustments to the start of the school year.

On a unanimous vote, the Meade School Board voted to extend the start of in-service for teachers from August 25 to August 31, and the start of classes for students and staff from August 31 to September 8,  following the Labor Day holiday.

The hope is that by starting classes one week later than planned this fall, any impact from infection spikes as a result of the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally being held amid the COVID-19 global pandemic, will be lessened.
