STURGIS, S.D. – A fast moving storm system brought wind, snow and slippery roads to the northern hills Friday morning.
A Winter Storm Warning was in effect for the upper elevations of the Black Hills, with a Winter Weather Advisory for the foothills.
Gusty northwest winds created some areas of blowing snow, and that led to some slippery roads.
A semi-truck jackknifed on I-90 east of Spearfish, shutting down a portion of the road for a little over an hour.
The truck was traveling westbound between Exit 14 and Exit 17 when a gust of wind caught the truck’s trailer, causing it to jackknife. There was snow blowing across the road at the time.
Traffic was diverted onto Exit’s 14 and 17 and to the service road to get around the incident.
The winter warnings and advisories were allowed to expire late Friday morning, but a wind advisory and high wind warning remained in place for the plains of western South Dakota.
Snow totals included 3.7 inches in Lead and 2.5 inches in Brownsville. Sturgis and Spearfish saw just a trace of snow.
