RAPID CITY, S.D. – A man charged in connection with a fatal stabbing made his first court appearance Tuesday.
Joseph Poor Thunder, 28, appeared at Pennington County Courthouse following his arrest for allegedly killing a man Sunday in Box Elder.
Poor Thunder faces a first-degree murder charge. If convicted, he could spend his life behind bars or face the death penalty.
Poor Thunder also allegedly threatened a woman with a knife prior to the stabbing. In addition to the first-degree murder charge, he’s charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
Poor Thunder will be assigned a public defender for his next court appearance, the date of which is yet to be announced.
He’ll remain in jail with no bond.
