PIERRE, S.D. – It was a deadly COVID-19 report Wednesday, as 15 new deaths were reported across the state. Of those 15 deaths, there were 2 out of Pennington County, and one each out of Lawrence and Meade. The state’s death toll reaches 2,349 today.
New cases totaled 936 with 254 of those listed as probable.
Active cases are back up over 7,000 to 7,222 and the number of people hospitalized is up six from yesterday to 249. The majority of the state’s hospitalizations are in people who are not vaccinated against the virus.
Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 90 new cases with 30 of those listed as probable.
Oglala Lakota County saw a spike of 73 new cases Wednesday, more than doubling their active caseload to 91.
Meade County added 21 new cases Wednesday while Lawrence County reported 15.
Elsewhere, Butte County had 12 new cases, Custer County tallied 4 new cases and Fall River County added one new case.
