Fifteen new deaths; 417 new cases of COVID-19 reported Sunday

PIERRE, S.D. – The State Health Department reported 15 new COVID-19 related deaths Sunday, sending the state’s total since the pandemic started to 1,585. The new deaths were 8 men and 7 women.

New cases Sunday totaled 417 with 176 of them listed as probable.

Active cases remained steady at 5,040 and the number of people hospitalized went up three to 237.

Total new cases across West River counties was 88 with 23 considered probable.

Across the Black Hills, Pennington County added 42 total new cases with 8 considered probable. The cumulative total in Pennington rises to 11,797 and the number of active cases drops to 639.

Meade County added 13 new cases Sunday, with 3 listed as probable. Lawrence County added 7 new cases with one considered probable.

Other new cases across the Black Hills area included 5 in Oglala Lakota, 2 in Fall River and one in Butte counties.

There were 1,068 new persons tested reported on Sunday. Sunday’s new person tested positivity rate is 39%.
