HERMOSA, S.D. – A Hermosa area home was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.
Fire crews responded to a home on fire on Gumbo Lily Lane at approximately 4:21 Wednesday morning.
Very gusty winds were fanning the fire, which had moved into some dry grass sparking a grass fire.
The home received extensive damage and the ensuing grass fire had burned nearly 19-acres.
Authorities evacuated some homes on Usera Drive to the east due to the high winds carrying the grass fire.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Pennington County Fire Department, Custer County Fire Department, Battle Creek VFD and the Red Cross assisted with response to the fire.
