Fire burning near Fairburn in Custer County now 75-percent contained

FAIRBURN, S.D. – The Agate Bed fire burning in Custer County is now 75-percent contained.

The fire began Sunday and has burned approximately 2,500 acres. That number is an estimate due to the extremely rugged terrain where the fire is burning.

Crews are still looking into the cause of the fire, suspecting it was man-made, and they are asking everyone to avoid the area.

Western South Dakota is experiencing a dry spell right now so Jerome Harvey from Pennington County Fire says to make sure all your burn piles are out.
