WALL, S.D. – Fire crews remained on the scene of a wildfire burning near Wasta overnight.
Great Plains Fire Dispatch says the grass fire started after a semi-trailer loaded with hay caught fire and sparked the blaze around 11:30 p.m. on I-90.
The fire moved north of I-90 and had burned an estimated 300 to 400 acres.
Pennington County Fire Administrator Jerome Harvey has told area media that he’s getting reports crews are making good progress in getting a line around the fire.
The fire, dubbed as the Hawk Draw Fire, disrupted westbound traffic on I-90 for a time as fire crews responded and began to work the fire.
Several area crews responded to battle the blaze.
