Fire crews battling wildfire north of Canyon Lake

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Local, state and federal resources quickly responded to a wildfire west of Rapid City Tuesday afternoon.

The Canyon Fire was reported around 1:45 p.m. and was located near the Cedar Camp Ranch about a half mile northwest of Canyon Lake.

It took crews a few hours to stop the forward progress of the fire, and by 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, Rapid City Fire said they were in the mop up stage. The fire was listed at 1.3 acres by Great Plains Fire Dispatch and 25% contained.

The fire did not reportedly threaten any structures and no evacuations were issued.

The fire’s cause was under investigation.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Several area fire crews are battling a wildfire to the west of Rapid City Tuesday afternoon.

Great Plains Fire Dispatch reports the Canyon Fire was initially reported at 1:45 p.m. about a half mile northwest of Canyon Lake.

It was reportedly in the area of the Cedar Camp Ranch on Memorial Road.

The fire was listed at three-quarters of an acre and was burning on private property.

Local, state and federal resources have all responded to the blaze.

The fire did not appear to be threatening any structures and no evacuations were in place.
