Fire crews continue to battle blazes Saturday

UNDATED – As fire crews continued mopping up the Lost Cabin Fire, new fires popped up Saturday.

The 650 Fire was reported Saturday morning off Forest Service Road 650 south of Rapid City and 10 miles off Highway 16, across from the Cosmos turnoff.

This fire is approximately two acres in size. However, as of 2:00 p.m. Saturday, firefighters had made a line around the fire and it is 50% contained.

The cause of the 650 Fire is unknown.

Elsewhere, the Rolling Hills Fire was reported at 12:50 p.m. at Rolling Hills and Nemo Road in Pennington County.

The fire is five acres in size with forward progress being halted by crews.

The Lost Cabin Fire on Saturday night was 100% contained. Crews will continue to mop up and monitor the site for the next few days until they can call it “controlled” and “out”.
