RAPID CITY, S.D. – Fire officials say the Bennett wildfire is now 90% contained and remains at 367 acres in the Black Hills National Forest.
The fire started after lightning struck last Thursday afternoon about eight miles southwest of Dewey in Fall River County.
Fire personnel held the fire within the containment lines all Sunday night and into Monday morning.
There are still currently 110 fire personnel from across the region, including those from throughout South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Wisconsin, and Colorado. Multiple agencies and volunteer fire departments are supporting the effort to suppress the fire.
