BOX ELDER, S.D. – Fire crews in Box Elder responded to an early morning structure fire Sunday.
At 2:42 a.m. on August 11, the Box Elder Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 700 Block of Box Elder Road West.
Responding firefighters found a free-burning fire spreading from a one-story residence, producing large quantities of smoke. Flames extended into the ceiling and roof assembly of the structure.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the structure, stopping the spread of the flames to nearby structures. No injuries were reported, though one domestic animal died in the fire.
Neighbors, family and the Red Cross are working to assist the residents of the structure.
