Fire crews in Hill City battle Tuesday night structure fire

HILL CITY, S.D. — At around 8:53 p.m. Tuesday night, the Hill City Volunteer Fire Department, along with other agencies, responded to a structure fire in a detached garage in the 200 block of Pine Avenue in Hill City.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the structure burning with heavy smoke conditions and it extended into the roof assembly and the immediate adjacent residential structure.

Despite facing wind gusts of over 50 miles per hour, Hill City volunteer firefighters kept the fire to the initial structure, and adjacent residential structure.

No injuries to civilians, domestic animals or firefighters were reported.
