RAPID CITY, S.D. – Fire crews in Jackson County responded to a wildfire Tuesday about 7 miles south of Cottonwood.
The Forage Fire was reported just after noon on private property.
The human caused fire burned approximately 8.4 acres before fire crews were able to put it out.
Meanwhile, another small fire was being reported this morning.
Great Plains Fire was reporting the Slate Prairie Fire at about a tenth of an acre and burning in the Black Hills about 2 miles southeast of Deerfield Lake.
The lightning sparked fire was burning on forest service property with Forest Service crews battling the blaze.
Fire spotters are on the watch for smoke plumes this morning after thunderstorms brought lightning overnight.
