Fire crews keep vehicle fire from spreading to nearby forest

ROCKERVILLE, S.D. — Crews from multiple local agencies responded to a vehicle fire in the Hippie Hole parking lot late Monday afternoon.

Just after 5 p.m., units from Rockerville were called to the area for a reported vehicle fire. Rough roads made navigating standard fire trucks into the area difficult.

Because of the proximity to the forest and possible spread, Rockerville called in assistance from the United States Forest Service and Whispering Pines Volunteer Fire Department.

Forest Service law enforcement responded, along with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the vehicle and prevent it from spreading into nearby woods.

Another vehicle on scene was damaged due to radiating heat.
