RAPID CITY, S.D. – Firefighters today continued to mop up and provide rehab operations on the lines of the Auburn Fire north of Rapid City.
In their afternoon briefing, Great Plains Fire Dispatch reports the fire is now 70% contained and the acreage burned is 968.17 acres.
Firefighters were preparing for a shift in the winds, as they switch from the south to the northwest. An approaching cool front should provide relief, however, elevated fire conditions will continue today.
The outlook for Friday is increasing moisture and lighter winds.
Some smoke could be seen today from fuel burning within the fire perimeter and Great Plains Fire says residents can expect to see that.
The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental, due to mechanical failure of earth moving equipment.
