Fire crews respond to overnight wildland fire near Keystone

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Fire crews responded to a wildland fire overnight off of U.S. Highway 16 on Calumet Road north of Keystone.

Pennington County Fire Administrator Jerome Harvey says the fire had burned between 5 and 6 acres.

He says no structures are threatened and he expects crews to remain on scene for a while to work on mop-up operations.

There was no initial word on a possible cause.

People were being advised to stay away from the area to allow fire crews to get in and work. Harvey says the fire was burning in some rough terrain.

It’s not the only fire reported over the past 24 hours.

Great Plains Fire Dispatch reported the Reed Fire had burned 15 acres of land northwest of Hulett, Wyoming.

The fire was reported just after noon Monday.

Federal, State and Local resources were battling that blaze.
