Fire destroys Meadow bar and grill

MEADOW, S.D. – A popular gathering place in the tiny town of Meadow in Perkins County has been destroyed by fire.

Smoky’s Bar and Grill is considered a complete loss after the fire Sunday afternoon.

Perkins County authorities say a passerby noticed smoke coming from the building and called authorities. By the time fire crews arrived, they noticed flames coming from the building.

Fire crews battled the blaze for several hours. Because there is no community water system in Meadow, firefighters were forced to haul water from Bison and a rural water system tap three miles away to fight the fire.

The owners of the establishment, Andrea Block and Shiloh Lorius, are grateful no one was injured. Friends are organizing fundraisers to help the couple.

A coal furnace is being looked into as the possible cause of the fire.
