Fire destroys trailer home in Spearfish

SPEARFISH, SD – The Spearfish Fire Department responded to a structure fire reported Monday morning of a fully engulfed trailer house on Partridge Place.

The fire was reported at approximately 9:45 a.m., and the residents had evacuated the home at the time of the call.

The Spearfish Fire Department had two engines, one water tender, one brush truck, and one rescue unit respond.

Deputy Chief Brian Ziegler described forward progress of the fire was stopped at approximately 10:52 a.m., when crews began mop-up operations. The single-wide trailer house and contents were a total loss, with limited damage to a detached garage onsite. There were no injuries reported for first responders or civilians. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Deputy Chief Ziegler thanked all of the volunteer firefighters and responding agencies for their efforts in fighting the fire, especially in the windy conditions.

In addition to the Spearfish Fire Department, the Belle Fourche, Deadwood, and Whitewood fire departments responded as mutual aid, and Spearfish Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service, Spearfish Fire Department Auxiliary, and State Fire Marshal’s Office also assisted at the scene.

The Red Cross has been notified and is assisting the residents displaced by the fire.
