Fire erupts at home in Rapid Valley, investigation continues

RAPID VALLEY, S.D. – Fire fighting units responded to a report of a structure fire in Rapid Valley on Sunday.

At 2:20 p.m., the Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department received a call for a report of a structure fire in the 4300 block of Robert Ct. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a free burning fire inside a home, but the occupants were not inside at the time the fire started. Smoke filled the interior of the structure and a plume could be seen from west Rapid City.

An adjacent home was damaged by the heat, but the flames were contained to the home and yard of the burning house.

No firefighters, homeowners, or animals were injured in the fire.

The American Red Cross serving Central and Western South Dakota, as well as the Black Hills Fire Chaplains Association is assisting the occupants.

Officials continue to investigate the cause.

The agencies that responded to the fire include Pennington County 911, Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Box Elder Volunteer Fire Department, North Haines Volunteer Fire Department, North Haines Fire Corps, Rapid City Fire Department and Ambulance, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, West River Electric, Montana Dakota Utilities, The American Red Cross Serving Central and Western South Dakota and the Black Hills Fire Chaplains Association.
