EAGLE BUTTE, S.D. — Authorities on the Cheyenne River Reservation (CRST) are looking into what sparked a fire on Highway 212 yesterday.
According to Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement, smoke and flames could seen coming from a semi that was loaded with hay bales. What caused the bales to ignite is currently under investigation.
A home was in the immediate path of the fire and close by. Crews were able to stop the fire from reaching it.
Authorities say no injuries were reported from the fire.
In related news, a large wildfire on CRST came within 50 feet of homes and a school building in Takini, near Howes, S.D. Three fires that ignited on March 10, 2025, merged into one.
