Fire north of Johnson Siding at 75% containment

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Fire crews say they have a fire burning south of Bogus Jim Road, or off of Norris Peak Road north of  Johnson Siding 75-percent contained Tuesday night.

The Hat Mountain Fire has burned approximately 35 acres in an area of heavy timber.

The fire was reported at 2:42 Tuesday afternoon.

It led to the evacuation of some homes along the south side of Bogus Jim Road according to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.

Federal, state and local resources were called in to fight the fire and air support was also brought in. Approximately 130 personnel were on scene Tuesday night.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
