Fire officials say compromised gas meter leads to mobile home fire early Wednesday morning

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Fire says they were dispatched to 800 block of Flamingo Drive around 2:40 Wednesday morning for a report of a structure fire.

The only information they had at the time of dispatch was that the house was on fire. As crews responded and got closer to the home, they noticed flames coming from the area that they could see from Lowe’s.

Once they arrived on scene, the home was already 75 percent involved. Crews began attacking the fire, which ended up being a natural gas fed fire on the back side of the home, because of a compromised gas meter.

It took about thirty minutes to knock down the blaze.

The double wide modular home is a complete loss.

There was a single occupant in the home that was able to escape right away and there are no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by our Fire and Life Safety Division.

Crews who responded: Battalion Chief 1, Engine 7, Medic 7, Truck 3, Truck 1 and Squad 1
