RAPID CITY, S.D. – Great Plains Fire Dispatch say fireworks are to blame for starting several wildfires across western and central South Dakota Saturday night and Sunday.
One fire is located within Fort Pierre city limits.
The Marion CA Fire was reported just after 5:00 p.m. Sunday night. The fire’s size was not known yet, but federal and local resources were responding.
Another fire was reported in Hughes County, 2 miles northeast of Pierre.
The fire burned 1.5 acres before being brought under control early Sunday.
Another firework-started blaze was reported a mile southeast of Black Hawk. That fire burned under an acre and was brought under control early Sunday.
In the Black Hills, a lightning sparked fire was reported 6.5 miles Northwest of Tepee Work Center, near the Red Bird Canyon area and 3 miles Southeast of Summit Ridge lookout in Custer County.
The Roby Fire was reported just after 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Federal, state and local resources were responding to the fire which had burned under an acre at last report.
