EAST LANSING, MI – The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry will kick off field hearings on the 2023 Farm Bill, April 29, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (Eastern time). The first hearing will be held at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, the home state of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan), committee chair.
According to a release from Stabenow and Sen. John Boozman (R-Arkansas), ranking member on the Senate Ag Committee, the hearing will focus on agriculture, conservation, rural economic development, research, forestry, energy and nutrition policies. Witnesses will be announced prior to the hearing.
Stabenow says the most recent Farm Bill passed with the strongest bipartisan support ever and says she expects the same support in this bill. Stabenow says farmers and others impacted by the Farm Bill will share how the legislation can be strengthened to grow the economy and build a stronger food supply chain.
Ranking member Senator John Boozman of Arkansas says crafting a farm bill that can become law is a delicate balance. He says it’s critical to hear directly from agricultural stakeholders. Boozman says another field hearing will take place in Arkansas in the coming months.
In addition to being in person, the hearing will be streamed live here.
The House Ag Committee held a hearing related to the 2023 Farm Bill March 16 in Washington, D.C., focusing on climate policy.
