FORT PIERRE, S.D. – Athletes in several events wrapped up the first go at the South Dakota High School Rodeo Finals in Fort Pierre Thursday.
In the bareback riding, Kashton Ford of Sturgis had the top score with a 75. He leads Cayden Wolfe of Belle Fourche who scored a 66 point ride.
In the barrel racing, Piper Cordes of Wall leads with a top time of 17.116. Landry Haugen of Sturgis is third.
In the breakaway, Charlie Henwood of Belle Fourche is the leader, turning in a top time of 2.260 for 39 points. Kylene Baker of Buffalo Gap is second.
In the bull riding, the top ride so far belongs to Mason Moody of Letcher. Jack Rodenbaugh of Box Elder is third.
Rance Bowden of Belle Fourche wins the boy’s cutting, where he finished on top with 86 points. Winning the girl’s cutting was Layne Stevens of St. Lawrence with 76 points. Whitewood’s Tava Sexton was second and Landry Haugen of Sturgis was fourth. Macy Schiley of Meadow was third. Another completed event, the goat tying, was won by Brylee Grubb of Spearfish.
In the pole bending after the first go, T. Merrill of Wall is the leader in a time of 21.178.
Dallie Lawrence of Alzada, MT leads the reined cow horse with Landry Haugen of Sturgis in third.
In the saddle bronc, Traylin Martin of Faith has the top score with a 75.
The first go steer wrestling leader is Teagan Gourneau of Presho with a time of 5.60. Bobby Brewer of Dupree is a close second and Grey Gilbert of Buffalo is third.
The leading duo in the team roping is Tate Johnson and Tyan Johnson of Sisseton and Rance Bowden leads the tiedown with a time of 10.600 seconds.
