First measurable snow forecasted for Black Hills

STURGIS, S.D. – The first measurable snow of the season is expected to fall on the Black Hills today.

A Winter Storm Warning is up for the upper elevations of the Black Hills, where as much as 8 to 15 inches could fall.

The warning goes into effect at noon today and will last until noon Wednesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for Spearfish, Saint Onge and Whitewood as well as the southern hills. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches is possible across the higher foothills, with mostly 1 to 4 inches in the Spearfish and Whitewood areas.

Sturgis is not under the advisory, but could see and inch or two before the system moves out Wednesday.

Travel could become difficult in the Black Hills later today.
