First wave of E.M.S. COVID-19 testing West River shows no positive cases

STURGIS, S.D. – The Department of Health says initial testing of E.M.S. and first responders on the front lines of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally have provided good news so far.

Health Secretary Kim Malsom-Rysdon reported Monday that E.M.S. personnel for Apollo, Faith, Deadwood, Sturgis, Hot Springs and Edgemont were among the first to be tested.

“All of the test results for those providers have come back negative. And, if you recall, our plan is to do additonal mass testing of E.M.S., law enforcement and firefighter personnel statewide starting two weeks after the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.”

Malsom-Rysdon says they had planned on mass testing those groups who would be working on the front lines of any large event across the state this summer.
