First weekly COVID-19 update from DOH indicates 61 new cases

UNDATED – The Weekly COVID-19 report released today indicated 61 new cases across the state. Two new cases of the Delta Variant were also reported. There have now been three of the more contagious variant found in South Dakota.

As of today, 178 cases are active and there are 27 people hospitalized.

The state’s death toll is 2,039. There was one new death from the last update, July 2, and four deaths in the past seven days. The new death was a man in the 30-39 age group.

Across the Black Hills area, there were 40 new cases reported.

Pennington County had the most with 21. Active cases are at 53 and the total number of cases since the pandemic began totals 13,970.

Butte County had the second most cases this week with 7 and Meade County added 4.

Lawrence and Oglala Lakota County had 3 new cases each and there was one new case each in Custer and Fall River County.

This is the first of the weekly updates from the Department of Health. The updates will be posted on Wednesdays by 12 p.m. and will include cases reported by 1 p.m. Tuesday.
